My concern has been with how human bodies — male and female, young and old — inhabit the hierarchy of spaces that support the enactment of social roles defined by gender, race, or age. Particularly, I’ve been interested in making visually explicit the stereotypical associations of certain spaces with male or female bodies, a necessary step for their subversion.
